Present Simple

To form it we use the following structure: SUBJECT + VERB + COMPLEMENTS

I eat an apple

If the verb is in the 3 person of singular, we change its ending. In general we always add -s (he eats) except in the following cases that we add -es:

- When the verb finish in -o → I go , she goes
- When it finish in -x, -s, -ss, -ch, -sh → he mixes, she passes, he approaches, she pushes
- The verb to have is irregular: I have, he/she/it has
- The verb to be is completely irregular

NEGATIVE

It follows this structure:  SUBJECT + AUXILIARY + NOT + VERB + COMPLEMENTS

We always need an auxiliary to form the negative and it can be DO (for all persons) or DOES (for 3 person of singular).

I do not eat an apple -- (with contractions) I don't eat an apple

INTERROGATIVE

We use this structure: AUXILIARY + SUBJECT+ VERB + COMPLEMENTS + ?

Do you eat an apple?

We answer to this type of questions using the auxiliaries:
- Yes, I do
- No, I don't

These are called “short answer”
